Shell and Safety
Shell Material: Soman off-road helmets are typically made from a lightweight and durable ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) shell.
This material is known for its impact resistance. Some models may also use more advanced materials like carbon fiber for a lighter weight. Safety Certification: The helmets are generally certified with safety standards such as DOT FMVSS 218 and ECE R22.05.
These certifications ensure the helmet meets specific safety requirements for impact absorption. EPS Liner: The helmet uses a multi-density EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) safety buffer layer.
The different densities of foam are designed to absorb and distribute the energy of an impact effectively.
Comfort and Ventilation
Liner: The interior liner is designed for comfort and hygiene.
It is typically removable and washable, and made from a breathable, moisture-wicking, and anti-allergic fabric. Ventilation: A key feature for off-road helmets is ventilation, and Soman models often have a robust system.
This includes channeled EPS and multiple vents at the front, top, and rear of the helmet to allow for excellent airflow, which helps keep the rider cool and comfortable during intense riding.
Closure and Fit
Closure System: Soman off-road helmets commonly use a competition-grade Double D-ring buckle.
This is considered one of the most secure and reliable closure systems for helmets, as it prevents the helmet from coming off in a crash. Chin Strap: The chin strap is typically reinforced for added security.
Fit: The helmets are available in a range of sizes (e.g., S-XXL) and are designed with an "intermediate oval" head shape to fit a wide range of riders.
Design and Additional Features
Helmet Peak/Visor: Off-road helmets have a prominent peak, which is often adjustable and removable, to shield the rider's eyes from the sun, roost (dirt kicked up by other riders), and debris.
Wide Eye Port: The helmet has an extra-wide eye opening to accommodate motocross goggles.
Weight: Soman off-road helmets are designed to be lightweight, with a typical net weight of around 1200g (±50g), which reduces neck strain during long rides.
Graphics and Colors: The helmets come in a variety of styles, with different graphic designs and colors.
